Great spirits often encounter violent opposition from mediocre minds

I ask for God's wisdom to rain on me.

3rd day in Paris - 10th April 2007 - Part 2 - La Defense

After breakfast at MacDees, we venture outside to see...

Huge huge huge - La Defense

La Défense is a major business district for the city of Paris (French:"Ville de Paris"), bordering Neuilly-sur-Seine, west of the city itself. It is centered in an ovular freeway loop straddling the Hauts-de-Seine département municipalities of Nanterre, Courbevoie and Puteaux. The district is at the westernmost extremity of Paris' 10-km long Historical Axis, which starts at the Louvre in Downtown Paris and crosses the Champs-Élysées and the Arc de Triomphe.

La Défense is named for the statue, La Défense de Paris, which was built in 1883 to commemorate the soldiers who had defended Paris during the Franco-Prussian War. The name of the area sometimes causes confusion with visitors, who occasionally assume it is some kind of military zone or establishment.

My SIL and I.

Colin on the steps of La defense

Still in awe of the size of La defense.

Big thumb scuplture near La Defense.

Bubi and me!

Squatting on a tiny tram on Merry-go-round

Ok, I see the French sitting down anywhere anytime. I also want to try. My SIL joins me.
Soft short small blades of clean grass. Unlike those in Singapore where they make you itchy.

Anybody sees the bird captured at the corner of La Defense?

Ahhhhhh........shiok....clear blue skies :)

Give me a T!

A shot of Arc de triomphe from La Defense. The Arc and La Defense are parallel to each other in a straight line.
The air doesn't seem too fresh from here.

We were too early to meet my brother for lunch and we decided to get a snack. And wine.
Slightly bitter apple wine from Monop, a local supermarket. I kept the glass, great for sipping wine.
Come to think of it, I really start to enjoy drinking wine in France. Plus it is cheap there to drink.

Not forgetting chips!

My bubi's wine.

Relaxing my feet. And enjoying the sun in the cold weather in Paris. Just one thing though, the sun was in our eyes

Time to meet my bro. Yo guys, train's coming!
